Best Things To Buy In November
Halloween products
The week after Halloween is the best time to shop for decorations and candy. You can find some terrific deals by waiting until November 1st. Stock up on candy if you’ll be filling stocking. Kids could care less about packaging. It’s what’s on the inside that they’re after!
In season produce
Look for these veggies & fruits to be in peak season for the month of November, which also means you can find them at their lowest prices. Stock up & save on: avocados, cabbages, celery, carrots, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, yams, squash, turnips, dill, huckleberries, lemons, cranberries, tangerines, pineapple & pears.
Home improvement services
Fall/Winter is often slow for many contractors and many will be willing to negotiate. Look for deals on renovation services, carpeting & flooring. Also, be sure to check out sales at home improvement stores like Lowes & Home Depot.
Tools & hardware
Black Friday & Cyber Monday are a great time to snag deals on these items!
Department & electronic stores aren’t the only places that have fantastic sales on Black Friday. Home improvement stores, big and small, offer deals on items like drill sets, tool chest and an assortment of other power tools. Many times, these stores will offer gifts with purchases, so it’s like getting 2 for 1! Snag some pretty great gifts for the men in your life for Christmas!
Winterizing materials
Now is a great time to find deals on insulation, caulking & more! You’ll definitely want to take advantage of these deals…the sooner the better so you can start saving on your utility bills.
Food Storage
Look for manufacturer coupons & stores sales to save BIG on food storage containers! You think this is crazy? Nope, it’s not! Food storage containers are definitely one of the best things to buy in November!
Thanksgiving & Christmas will yield lots of extra food and we’ll need a way to store it. Also, if your hosting either one of these holidays, you may want to send your guest away with some “doggy bags” (or containers). Also look for sales on foil & plastic wrap. All essential during the holidays!
Turkeys
Starting in November, turkeys will hit rock bottom prices in preparation for the holidays. We’ve seen prices as low as .59 cents a pound which makes this bird the best deal around!
Turkey will definitely feed a crowd and if you’re hosting Thanksgiving or Christmas, take advantage of these spectacular prices! If you’ve never cooked a big bird, check out my post, Easy Oven Roasted Turkey Recipe For Any Holiday.
Baking supplies
Baking supplies like butter, cake mixes, chocolate chips, sugar, spices, cookie dough and other baking essentials will be at their best prices now through the end of the year! Be sure to stock up!
Televisions
November is THE month that you’ll want to snag awesome deals on TV’s. Wait for Black Friday & Cyber Monday to see some of the best offers yielding sometimes, deep discounts.
Best Buy tends to be my go to store for TVs so keep an eye out there to see what may be coming down the pike. One little tip, though…make sure to pay attention to the specs to make sure your getting the deal that’s advertised. I’ve read that some companies manufacture a lower quality TV specifically for these sales.
Budget laptops
Black Friday is going to be your best chance to catch killer deals on laptops, desk tops & IMACs. The newest models will be going on sale but usually only discounted 5-15%. Your best deal will be on last year’s models or older. Some of these deals will start the week before Black Friday, but the majority of the best ones will be on Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
Major Appliances
Just like TV’s, appliances like stoves, dishwashers, refrigerators & vacuum cleaners will all be on sale. Do a little homework and figure out what you’re really are in need of and do some research prior to shopping. If you know your prices before the sales, it’ll be much easier to spot the great deals when they come along.
Wedding dresses & Wedding decor
Retailers are clearing out Summer inventory and the wedding season is typically in a lull in the Fall, which makes this a great time to score a great deal on a wedding dress or anything wedding related. Sales start in November and will usually go right up to Christmas. This is their slow season and bridal shops have surpluses from the summer and they’re anxious to move this merchandise out. This is also a great time to be on the lookout for prom dresses at these stores. Bridesmaid dresses make awesome prom gowns.
What not to buy in NOvember
Cars
Typically in November, dealerships are desperate to get rid of this year’s models, but in our current situation, things have changed. This year, the auto industry is currently going through a computer chip shortage. Tighter supplies means you’ll have a harder time finding a car making it almost impossible to find a deal. With a supply chain issue, even the prices of used cars have been higher than usual. The up side is dealers may be willing to give you a little more on a trade in…but there’s no promises there.
Airfare
Airfare is DEFINITELY not the on the “best things to buy in November”.
Starting in mid November, prices start rising on just about everything and the airline industry is no exception. The holidays are the busiest travel season so they are going to take advantage of the demand and raise their prices…A LOT! The best way to avoid paying extra high prices for your airline tickets is to wait until after the rushes over. Ticket prices usually fall after Christmas and stay pretty level until March.
If you absolutely have to travel during this time, book early because waiting until November will cost you a lot.
Holiday merchandise
The best time to get holiday merchandise is AFTER Christmas. Prices, after the holidays, go way down on trees, ornaments or any kind of seasonal decor sometimes as much as 90%. This far exceeds any discounts you can get, even on Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals. If you can wait, buy holiday decor for the next year after Christmas and save a bundle.
I’m not saying to rush out and spend money on these things because they may be on sale, but if you’re in the market for some of these items or you know you may be needing them next season anyway, now is a good time to purchase them at a discounted price and save some money.
