March signifies the end of cold weather and happy St Patricks day, but it also brings with it some great sales and deals that can save some serious cash if you’re in the market for any of these items. So, to help you out, I’ve done a little research and have come up with a great list of the best things to buy in March as well as what you need to skip this month.

So, without further adieu, here’s my list of the best (and worst) things to buy in the month of March.

THE BEST THINGS TO BUY IN march

vacuum cleaners

When March rolls around, what is the first (or second) thing that comes to mind? For me, it’s spring cleaning and we all know that in order to really do a good spring cleaning, you need the proper tools. At the top of my tools list is my vacuum cleaner. If it’s been a while since you’ve upgraded your vac, this may be the perfect time to do so. Retailers know a clean & tidy house is on the mind of many and will likely offer better deals than normal at the beginning of the spring cleaning season.

St Patrick’s day goodies

March 17th is St Patricks day and if you like the color green, you’re in luck!! As we get closer to this holiday, retailers will be discounting St Patty’s decor, apparel or anything associated with it. Like any other holiday, the longer you wait to shop, the better. The selection might be reduced, but so will prices. And if you wait until after the holiday is over, expect huge clearance prices! Take advantage and be ready for next year!

luggage

March is typically slow travel month. Many retailers will be offering luggage at a discount to try to increase sales. If you’re planning any trips in the future, now may be the time to take advantage of the lower prices and buy your luggage ahead of time. Don’t wait until right before you need it, as you may pay a hefty price for it.

winter apparel

As the weather warms up, the prices for winter apparel drops down as retailers try to get rid of last season’s inventory. This makes March a great time to grab some warm weather outfits, coats, scarves or boots for next year.

sandals

Warmer weather is on the horizon and so are deals on summer footwear. Sandals will be going on sale and right now, you should have plenty to choose from.

tax software

March is still a good time to get deals on tax software. Check retailers like Best Buy, Staples or even Amazon. Typically, the manufacturers will start bumping their prices up as we get closer to tax day. So, if you’re on the fence or tend to procrastinate when it comes to tax filing, sooner will save you some money. Look for coupon codes that can save you up to $20-30.

golf clubs

The latest, greatest golf club models hit the stores in March, so what does that mean for you? Last years models need to go and retailers will be discounting them to make room for the new ones! Head to your nearest golf shop and check out the what deals you may be able to score!

gardening tools

If you’re putting a spring garden in or just wanting to clean your yard up, this month is a great time to pick up gardening tools. Look for discounts on things like rakes, shovels and hoes at places like Lowes or Home Depot with prices as much as 50% off.

seasonal produce

March offers a wide range of vegetables & fruits that are in season at fantastic prices! Take advantage and stock up on artichokes, asparagus, avocados, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, citrus fruits, greens, leeks, lettuce, mushrooms, parsnips, pineapples, radishes, rutabagas, sweet potatoes and turnips.

frozen foods

March is National Frozen Food month, so you will likely see coupons & offers for frozen foods all this month. This would be a great time to get your freezer well stocked and save while doing it!

WHAT NOT TO BUY IN March:

Mattresses

Daylight saving time is coming and it may disrupt your normal sleep cycle this month. But unless you’re having back problems, trouble sleeping or you just need a mattress immediately, don’t buy one now. February, May, September and November offer the best sales in this category, usually during Presidents Day, Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, as well as Black Friday.

spring apparel

We’re all anxious for spring to arrive. We also like to update our wardrobe this time of year, but now’s not the time to do it. Retailer are just now getting the new spring arrivals in, which means ‘not on sale’ right now. You’ll save money if you can wait until the end of season. The only exception would be Easter attire. You may see price reductions as it gets closer to the day and definitely after the holiday.

major appliances

If you missed this year’s Presidents’ Day sales in February, you should wait until Memorial Day to buy a new washer/dryer set, fridge, dishwasher or oven. The weekend of May 28 to May 30 you will find fantastic clearance sales on most home appliance, big and small.

furniture

Similar to kitchen appliances, expect big blowout sales in May for Memorial Day. If you’re needing to upgrade your sofa or bedroom furniture, a little patience can yield quite the savings.

ONLY BUY IF YOU’RE ALREADY IN THE MARKET…

Like I always say…don’t rush out and spend money on these things because they may be on sale. But if you’re in the market for some of these items or you know you may be needing them next season anyway, early spring may be a good time to go over the “best things to buy in March” list and save some money!.
