Best Things To Buy In April
This month may bring April showers, but along with showers & warmer weather, it also brings several discounts & deals on certain items that are worth checking out. There are 2 major events taking place this month…Tax day on April 15th & Earth day on April 22nd. There’s also the ritual of “spring cleaning” that many people take part in that will get retailers to drop prices & offer some fantastic bargains. So, to help you out, I’ve done a little research and have come up with a great list of the best things to buy in April as well as what you need to skip this month.

The best things to buy in april
So, without further adieu, here’s my list of the best (and worst) things to buy in the month of April.
spring apparel
Warm weather is on the horizon and retailers are ready to clear out spring apparel to make room for summer apparel. That means jackets, lightweight sweaters and long-sleeve T-shirts will all be going on sale. Think ahead and buy now for next Fall & Winter.
easter items
You may see some sales leading up to Easter, but the best time to see discounts on Easter treats & decor in the days leading up to the holiday, the best time to shop for Easter clearance deals is AFTER the holiday. Look for post-Easter sales at big-box retailers, boutiques and drugstores as they clear inventory to make room for Mother’s Day displays.
It’s not uncommon to find deals of 50% – 90% off or more, so you can save on plastic eggs, plush bunnies & Easter decor for next year. Check out (my favorite) Hobby Lobby, Michaels, JoAnns, Walmart, Target, Walgreens & Family Dollar for great after season deals!
mother’s day gifts
Now is the time to start thinking about Mom! If you wait until May, prices will be higher on flowers, chocolates, etc. What you could do, though, is order your flowers a month early, instead of waiting until the week before. Also, if you like to give mom candy or chocolates, the day/week after Easter is a great time to take advantage of deals that can be 30% to 50% off at stores like Target & Walmart.

cookware/bakeware
Retailers typically run promotions in April on pots, pans and cooking tools in time for weddings, bridal showers and college graduations. Also, don’t forget these for Mother’s Day! If Mom is wanting new cookware, April is the time to save a little money and grab her gift early!
jewelry
With Mother’s Day right around the corner, you can expect to see plenty of deals on all kinds of jewelry this month from your favorite retailers, like Jared, Kendra Scott & Zales Jewelers. Look for sales on diamond earrings, birthstone necklaces, personalized jewelry & watches, as well as bracelets & rings.
car parts/accessories
Did you know that April is National Car Care Month? Neglecting routine vehicle maintenance is a common trend in the wintery months. That’s why each April is designated as National Car Care Month, so auto parts stores and service centers will most likely be running promotions. Even if you don’t need any major work done, this would be a good time to take a vehicle in for a tune-up. Go ahead and get your brakes checked, as well as your windshield wipers and tires. While you’re there, you can also see if you can score some deals on car accessories.
second hand goods/thrift stores
I love Spring for sooo many reason and one of them is it’s a great time to clean, declutter and donate! It’s also a fabulous time to snag some fantastic items at your local thrift store! Spring cleaning yields loads of donations to thrift stores, so check out a fresh array of secondhand clothing, home decor, furniture and so much more! As a matter of fact…if/when I need anything, I check my local thrift stores first, before I go to any retail stores. Most time I usually find exactly what I’m looking for and the best part is I pay a fraction of retail.

vacuums
When you get ready to do your spring cleaning, the most obvious tool to reach for is your vacuum. If your old one just isn’t picking up anymore, now would be a good time to upgrade. Amazon has some great choices as well as other major retailers. Be sure to check the coupon box for discounts before you check out on Amazon.
beauty products
April is a great month to find all kinds of deals on makeup and beauty products. Sephora’s Spring Savings Event kicks off online and in store for Beauty Insiders on April 5th. Also check your local drugstores like Walgreens & CVS for any specials they may be offering.
earth day gear
As I mentioned above, Earth Day is April 22. That means you can expect to see a variety of sustainable items on sale like reusable water bottles, Energy Star appliances, and LED lighting. If you’re looking to add more eco-friendly products into your rotation, think reusable grocery bags, sandwich/storage bags, straws, paper towels, etc.
home improvement supplies
With spring in the air, many DIYers will be heading to the home improvement stores to get started on projects that include home maintenance, indoor/outdoor projects, etc. There are many home improvement stores that offer “Spring Black Friday” discounts in April, making this the month to stock up and get to work. Deals have covered everything from lawn mowers to mulch to patio furniture. (Home Depot kicks off their Black Friday on Thursday, April 4, 2024.)
in season produce
April offers a bounty of vegetables & fruits that are in season at fantastic prices! Take advantage and stock up on apples, artichokes, asparagus, avocados, bananas, beets, blueberries, box choy, broccoli, cabbage & carrots. You can also include cauliflower, celery, citrus fruits, greens, kiwi, leeks, mushrooms, parsnips, pears, peas, pineapples, potatoes, strawberries, sweet potatoes and sweet onions.

WHAT NOT TO BUY IN MARCH:
mattresses
If you’re in need of a new mattress, this is not one of the best things to buy in April. You’ll find much better mattress deals once Memorial Day rolls around at the end of May.
grills
The temperatures are rising and we all want to be outside to enjoy the Spring weather and that includes barbecuing! But…hold off until mid to end Summer to get your BBQ Grill. Waiting will definitely pay off!
summer apparel
Retailer are just now clearing out Spring apparel, thereby making room for Summer inventory. April is the worst time to buy bathing suits, shorts, summer blouses & sandals. If you can wait, make your Summer apparel purchase toward the end of the Summer season. Better yet…if you’re in need of Summer attire, hit up your local thrift store! It’s my first stop when I’m needing shorts, short sleeve blouses/shirts or Summer dresses!
patio furniture
Retailers know that people are wanting to spruce up their outdoor spaces. Now’s not the time to invest in patio furniture. End of season…August/September is the best time to purchase outdoor furniture.
ONLY BUY IF YOU’RE ALREADY IN THE MARKET…
Like I always say in each of these “Best things to buy” posts…don’t rush out and spend money on these things because they may be on sale. But if you’re in the market for some of these items or you know you may be needing them next season anyway, early Spring may be a good time to go over the “best things to buy in April” list and save some money!.
