Easy Homemade Beer Bread Recipe

Easy homemade beer bread is one of the easiest recipes that you will ever make.  I had never heard of making bread this way until recently, when a friend showed how to do it on her Instagram stories.  I’m not sure where she learned to make it from, but when I watched how easy it was and how much she raved about how good it was, I knew I had to try it!

Well…she was right!  It was absolutely delicious and it is one of the easiest recipes that I’ve have ever made!  Just 3 simple ingredients (4 if you count the butter) and VIOLA!!  Super simple AND super cheap!

After I made it for the first time, I knew I had to share it with my readers!  I’m sure this recipe has been around for years, but I keep asking myself…How did I not know about this sooner??

The delicious, crunchy, butter covered crust and soft inside texture makes it a pair perfectly with soups, salads, homemade chili or just about anything!

So, my friends, here is a recipe that you’re going to want to make over and over!

The ingredients you’ll need:

  • 3 cups self rising flour
  • 1/4 – 1/2 cup sugar (You can experiment with this.  If you want a sweeter bread, use 1/2 cup.)
  • 12oz can or bottle of beer
  • 2-3 Tbsp melted butter

Directions

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and spray a loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray.

Combine the flour and sugar. together. You can sift them together, but it’s not totally necessary. I’ve done it both ways and it came out great!

Slowly add the beer of your choice to create a bread dough.

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and drizzle it with the melted butter.

Then, bake the bread for 45-55 minutes. Cool just a bit before serving.  If you sprayed the pan before you baked it, it should pop out of the loaf pan very easily.

Tips on making beer bread:

  • If you don’t have self rising flour, you can use all purpose flour, but add 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder and 1/4 tsp. salt for every cup of flour.
  • Different types of beer will affect the taste/flavor of your bread. I used Budweiser and that gave it a very nice, medium flavor.  You can certainly experiment with other flavors, as well.  A darker, more stout beer will obviously give a different flavor as opposed to a lighter beer.  Also, for a seasonal bread, try a pumpkin ale!
  • Try adding different ingredients such as herbs, garlic, cheese, etc., to also add different flavors.
  • Let the beer sit out from the fridge for about 20-30 minutes so it’s not too cold.
  • This bread is perfectly fine to give to children as the alcohol evaporates in the cooking process.
  • Pouring the melted butter on top of the loaf before cooking is what gives the bread a crunchy texture.  But if you prefer less crunchy, mix the butter in with the batter.
